There are
different styles and genres of musicals. They can also take traditional music
from the sertin country the musical is set in. For example the lion king takes
traditional African music and incorporate it into the musical. They can also
include proper slang and phrases from the place it is set in. A great example
of this is in west side story as you can hear the clear distinct difference
between the sharks and the jets speech. This is because the sharks who are from
Puerto Rico have a clear Spanish accent with Spanish slang, while the jets who
are from New York have a very clear American accent with the appropriate slang.
This helps the audience to clearly different who is Spanish and who is American.
They always try to connect with the audience in whatever way they can. This
helps to transport the audience into the world you are performing in front of
them, which make them enjoy their trip to the theatre even more magical. So it
is very important that the musical is appropriately adapted to make more like
the place it is set in.
Even if musicals don’t always contain traditional music it can give facts about different countries. A great example of this is in Legally Blonde the Musical in the song Ireland. In this song, it gives some facts about Ireland some are wrong as she says bag pipes which are Scottish instead of uilleann pipes which are Irish. So, it is a great way for people to learn a bit more about Ireland without having to research it at all. In Les Miserable it gives you an insight to the living conditions of the poor during the time of the June rebellion in 1833. You really get an insight of their life’s during the song At the End of the Day. This is really interesting to find out about this as one of the only other copy of what happened is in Victor Hugo’s book Les Miserable so it is really great to hear what happened during that time. So, musicals are not just very enjoyable to watch but they can also inform you about historic events and other countries. So, it is true that musicals are the best...
